In addition to “Mulan,” veteran Disney feature animation artist Woody Woodman also worked on films like “Tarzan” and “Lilo & Stitch,” and is one of the many instructors at Digital Arts for Autism, or DAFA, the program operated by Orlando’s Elite Animation Academy, where 19-year-old Adaryl “AJ” Beasley is currently enrolled. A.J. was diagnosed with autism at the age of three. Art is a powerful force for autistic individuals. Creating art promotes mental and emotional growth and a natural way to explore and express feelings. According to AJ’s parents, he is thriving in his animation studies. “It’s exciting to see him look forward to class,” said AJ’s mother, Micarla Beasley. “He is motivated to learn.” During AJ’s senior year of high school, he began showing interest in designing art on his computer. Micarla and husband Adaryl Beasley Sr. researched programs for their son and Elite Animation Academy had just opened its Digital Arts for Autism program. The syllabus, designed specifically for adults on the autism spectrum, was perfect; AJ’s classes are small, and the material is always very well explained. “The online classes have been amazing for our son. He is always excited to see what new design is waiting for him to recreate,” said Beasley Sr. Added Micarla: “He has grown so much in the last few months. We are grateful we found the right fit and we are looking forward to his continued progress.” Elite Academy was founded by former Disney animators. Students will then focus on applying these techniques and skills toward putting together a short story, designing characters and combining all these wonderful elements using Photoshop.

- [Introduction to Traditional Storyboarding](https://digitalartsforautism.org/course/introduction-to-traditional-storyboarding/): Storyboarding is an essential way to plan out any video media.  Through storyboarding we plan the sequence of events, and the camera’s placement.  We use storyboarding to make sure that your audience understands what’s happening, and helps you tell your story to its fullest. In the industry, final storyboards are put together in a booklet called Visual Treatments, as well as video slideshows with accompanying sound, called Animatics. This class will focus on sequential art communicating an idea through a sequence of images, the importance being on the group of images as a whole – through traditional drawings.

- [Traditional Illustration](https://digitalartsforautism.org/course/traditional-illustration/): An Illustration is a decoration, interpretation or visual explanation of a text, concept or process,designed for integration in published media, such as posters, flyers, magazines, books, teaching materials, animations, video games and films. An illustration is typically created by an illustration . Illustration also means providing an example; either in writing or in picture form.
- [Figure Drawing](https://digitalartsforautism.org/course/figure-drawing/): Instructing students how to draw the human figure from a clothed live model. We will focus on human anatomy, proportions, and five different drawing methods (different ways to approach the drawing). We will pose the figure in everyday nature poses that put the clothed model in context. Most figure drawing sessions, the clothed model is posed in classical or unusual positions, in this course, we will pose the clothed model in everyday natural poses to help train the artist to work with the figure to tell stories.We will also include costume drawing with the live model and additional props.
- [Sketching](https://digitalartsforautism.org/course/sketching/): The students will learn the basic principles used in creating a sketch. Principles include, shape, form, line, value, color, space, composition, emphasis, rhythm, and exaggeration, balance, proportion, Harmony, Variety, and texture. All classes will consist of a brief lecture in class followed by sketches done outside the classroom. We will stay close together as a class while students are encouraged to sketch what interests them the most. If it is hot, we will seek out an air conditioned venue, if it is nice out, we will sketch outside.

Then, apply these concepts to apply looping animation to create the appearance of realistic movement.
- [Digital Painting](https://digitalartsforautism.org/course/digital-painting/): Digital Painting is the use of digital tools to produce images under the direct manipulation of the artist, usually through a pointing device such as a tablet or mouse. Our Instructor shares his techniques for digital drawing in Adobe Photoshop. From creating a piece of artwork from scratch, beginning by creating a new document and creating custom brushes. He explains every step in his creative process as the image evolves from a rough scribble, to a slightly more detailed sketch, to a finished product including a detailed background.

Students will edit raw image files and other photos with state-of-the-art photo editing. Create compelling HDR images, black-and-whites, and panoramas. - [Comics and Cartooning](https://digitalartsforautism.org/course/comics-and-cartooning/): Have you ever wanted to learn cartooning ? We will be covering basic history, giving examples of different cartoon styles over the years. We will be cartooning basic object, vehicles, people and animals to teach exaggeration. Then I can demonstrate caricatures with all the kids and give them a try at each other. The course will finish with a comic strip assignment after a brief history example to cover sequential illustration and story telling.
- [Foundational Drawing 2](https://digitalartsforautism.org/course/foundational-drawing-2/): We will be using the same processes learned in Foundational Drawing for Beginners. We will draw more complex objects like; chairs, tables, vehicles and buildings. All these objects can still be broken down to very basic shapes and drawn in the same method as smaller similar objects. Students will not be drawing the same objects, but will be using the same methods to draw more difficult subjects. We will also introduce drawing the human figure.

- [Anime-Manga](https://digitalartsforautism.org/course/anime-manga/): Anime” is the short for “animation” (アニメーション) in the Japanese language, and “Manga” (漫画) is the word for “comic books”. The students will briefly explore the history and learn some of the basic techniques that makes this unique medium of visual storytelling so popular around the world. Students will then focus on applying these techniques and skills toward designing characters and combining all these wonderful elements into their own form of anime art.

Walt Disney was an artist and animator before he started the the theme parks and to carry on his legacy we will draw the way it all started !Two decades of experience in the feature animation industry will be ‘drawn’ upon in teaching the Tradional Animation class. Basic drawing fundamentals will be taught- volumes, proportions, perspective, construction lines, etc. Animated discussions will take place- favorite shows/movies/characters/industry related topics- the good, bad, and the ugly! Students will learn the process and evolution of animation and how to bring their drawings to life and infuse them with personality. Basic 12 Principals of Animation are instructed first then the basic fundamentals of Animation will be re-enforced and combined (for example- squash and stretch principles combined with overlapping actions)
